“So far, about 90 athletes in skateboarding, BMX stunt bike riding and freestyle motocross have joined what is known as the Pro Riders Organization, essentially an association, which was begun two years ago. The group’s agenda includes a wider distribution of prize money; revenue sharing with the television networks, who own the biggest events; group licensing agreements; greater input into how courses are designed because of concerns about safety and performance; and health insurance - which an estimated half of the athletes do not have.”
